Farm Bureau Legislative Concerns

A Powerful Lobby
The Indiana Farm Bureau association of farm families and non-farm members recognize that the prosperity of
agriculture is essential to the well-being of their communities. Since 1919, Farm Bureau has provided Hoosier
farmers with a way to reach goals collectively that would be difficult or impossible to achieve alone. Today,
Indiana’s membership is over 270,000. Indiana Farm Bureau is a member of the American Farm Bureau Federation,
the largest farm organization in the country, with over 5 million member families.

Your Voice for Tax Relief
Changes in Indiana property taxes are certain, and we work on your behalf, promoting property tax relief. On the
federal level, Farm Bureau pushes for reductions in capital gains and estate taxes to ease your tax load.

Problem Solving on Local Issues
The Government Relations staff works with members and local officials on local concerns, such as soil erosion,
land use planning, drainage, school funding, county government finance, and other issues.

Environmental Concerns
We are concerned with all areas of natural resources and environmental affairs, from watershed management to
water quality. We keep you informed of local, state, and national issues relating to the environment and how
they will impact the economic viability of their agricultural operations. Our policy strives for balance in the
protection of our natural resources in harmony with a productive agriculture.
